In each of these scenarios, the role exists but it is not advertised.

Relationships and Securing Jobs

Because unpublished jobs rely heavily on trust, relationships matter. Hiring managers are more likely to move forward with candidates who come recommended by someone they know, whether that is an internal employee or a staffing expert with an established track record.

This reinforces the importance of connection over cold application volume. Networking does not have to mean awkward self-promotion. It involves professional conversations and maintaining contact with industry professionals. 

For example, a job seeker looking to reenter the workforce after time away may be a strong fit for a planned maternity leave coverage role. Someone exploring a career change might benefit from a short-term assignment that provides exposure to a new industry without long-term risk. These opportunities are rarely advertised, but they are frequently discussed behind the scenes. Unpublished jobs are a powerful reminder that hiring is as much about relationships as it is about resumes.
