How to Find a Low Stress Job

If your workplace is a source of ongoing strain and pressure, it may be time to find a low stress job. After all, stress can have an impact on a person’s physical and mental health. When living with chronic stress, a person can experience disruptions to their digestive system and immune system. They can even experience sleep issues, which can lead to more stress.

Every person is different, some will find a workplace so stressful they take worries home with them while others will be able to leave the pressures of the position at the worksite. There are a range of temporary and full-time positions that could be a good match for you, discuss your situation with an employment expert at Staffing Network.

Understand Yourself

One of the first things you can do to avoid a high stress job is to understand what types of stress are difficult for you as an individual. For example, some people thrive in workplaces where there are tight deadline requirements. Or a long commute may bring one person stress while another enjoys the time in the car to listen to the radio and decompress from the day.

Make a list of what have been sources of stress for you in past positions. It could include one or more of the following.

  • Tight deadlines
  • Work that is dull
  • Abrupt task changes
  • Meeting production quotas
  • Working alone
  • Long commutes

Once you know what causes you stress, you can gravitate toward positions and industries that are a better fit for you.

Find a Low Stress Job Through Temporary Work

When you are looking for work, it can be hard to know if a job is the right match when you have only met the hiring manager once or twice during the interview process. An advantage of temporary work is you can try out a position for weeks or months at a time. Then, if you feel the position is right for you, you can pursue similar job titles. Or, if you find yourself experiencing stress, you can finish the term of that placement and then move on to another temporary placement and see if that is a good match.

With many open temporary and full-time positions available, now is a good time to try out different positions and find the right position for you. Some people enjoy a job where they clock in, perform a task well, and clock out. Leaving all of the details of work at the workplace. Others excel when they are promoted to management and given an opportunity to manage budgets. The key is to find the right job for you, and the experts at a staffing firm can help.
